I did this piece around the same time as I painted Segways, but it is a bit like a return to some of my earlier works, like 'Nightthoughts' or 'Flora and Fauna' Segways was tight and structured, so I wanted to move away from that into some thing which was a little more fluid, but retaining the concept of interlocking figures, creating their own positive and negative space.

The very first figure I started with was the white lamb in the middle, working outwards. As I started to fill the canvas it occurred to me that it would be interesting to leave some space, and that I did not have to cover the whole canvas as I had originally planned. By leaving some space it creates a sense of the figures spreading out and growing across the canvas like a strange organism.

To add further depth, to what could be a rather flat structure, I added the idea of the central figure being highlighted, the light and colour radiate out from that point, gradually fading away, though it is not clear whether the light is coming from an external source or whether it is radiating
