Paradise lost

This is one of my most rhythmical pieces. The medium dictated that to a certain extent. I used acrylic paint which is much looser than oils. I worked on the floor, rather than the wall, which aloud me greater movement in making gestures, also the paint was very fluid, so I put it on thickly without fear of it running.

The whole process was about building up layers, which is something that is difficult to do with oils without waiting for a great deal of time. As I did each layer it was like building up a labyrinth of overlapping figures. I started off with cooler darker colours then towards the end introduced a few layers with hot colours, in order to create more depth.

I called it Paradise Lost because it reminded me of Gustave Dore's rendition of Milton's epic prose of the same title.
