This painting is based on my idea of doing a planetary series. However rather than
doing a direct representation of the sun I chose Helios, bringer of the dawn. I
found the sun as a subject daunting, monumental, nothing i could think of seemed
to do it justice. Maybe one day I will arrive at something I am happy with.
Helios is traditionally shown with a carriage in which he carries the sun across the
sky, however I wanted it to seem as if the clouds were his carriage and the horses
have no need of a harness.
The whole painting is about light so I chose the closest tones to white that I
could with out loosing too much of a sense of composition. the figure in contrast is
dark, to give a sense of maximum contrast to the sun directly behind him, where
you can see the rays radiating from behind his back.
